Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this course, learners can:

  1. understand the importance of building resilience during early childhood.

Early childhood offers a critical window of opportunity to shape the trajectory of a child’s optimal growth and development.  Children who are exposed to traumatic events are at risk of developing long-term adverse effects that can disrupt healthy development.  After a traumatic event happens, children look for cues from their caregivers (parents, teachers, home visitors, counselors, therapists, etc.) on how to respond and for support.  Often, caregivers feel ill-equipped or out of balance with how to provide stability and support during a challenging time.  In this module, participants will develop a deeper understanding of the impacts of childhood trauma and why building resilience is essential to child development.  Participants will gain further insights into their unique position to influence the development of resilience in young children.
